July 10, (THEWILL) – Governor Babagana Zulum, on Monday, announced a total ban on metal scavenging in all Local Government Areas of Borno State.

Zulum made the announcement during a site tour of projects in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The governor, who sighted some metals vandalised by scavengers from government structures, described the act as sabotage.

“All those things are government properties; you can see street lights and communication towers. Such acts can sabotage the activities of state and Federal Governments.

“We can’t allow that to continue; I want to condemn it and announce the ban on metal scavenging in Borno till further notice. I will sign an executive order banning all forms of metal scavenging in Borno”, he said.

The Governor, who said some vehicles in the local government are allegedly destroyed by Scavengers, noted that many have lost their lives to terrorists while trying to vandalise items in deserted communities.
